A Historyofhomes.net member just asked about the difference between the terms ‘house’ and ‘home’ in the context of this website.
For me, home is where I live or have lived, where my family goes about life, where memories are made. It’s a place I relate to on a very personal level.
A house is a dwelling I have an interest in. It could be the curious apartment over the toy store at the end of the street, the lighthouse on the island down-river, or the Victorian mansion on last spring’s house tour. It’s a dwelling that I want to explore and learn more about.
Sometimes the line between house and home can get a bit blurry, especially when it comes to the dwellings of distance relatives who are integral to my family tree.
