Welcome to Historyofhomes.net, a personal labour of love reflecting my passion for family history and a life-long attachment to home.

The concept formed after a conversation with my teenage daughter in which I reminisced about the house I grew up in. She looked at me blankly. She was just five when that house was sold and has scant memory of the small red two-story that sheltered our family of nine for well over 40 years. How could that be, I thought? How could she know so little about a place that was so important to me? And what of all the other places I’ve called home? For me, these stories are as valuable as those that focus on the people of our family tree.

Like most of you, I’ve lived in various cabins, apartments and houses home for months, maybe a few years at a time, each with a rich history of its own. Histories that span decades defined by personal memories, family photos, plans and property documents. Histories worth researching, recording and sharing.

Thus, Historyofhomes.net has evolved from a simple philosophy: create an online community designed for sharing house and housing histories around the world.

I invite you to share your stories and images, and help build this virtual domain for a rich worldwide history of homes.
